Resident Doctors Give FG 10-Day Ultimatum Over Unmet Demands

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, warning that its members will embark on a nationwide strike if their demands are not met. The ultimatum expires on September 10, 2025.

NARD expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to fulfill its promises, despite earlier ultimatums. The association criticized the Kaduna and Oyo state governments for neglecting welfare concerns of resident doctors, leading to ongoing strike actions in some hospitals.

The doctors’ union is demanding immediate payment of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), settlement of outstanding arrears, payment of accoutrement allowance and specialist allowances, recognition of West African postgraduate membership certificates, and prompt issuance of membership certificates to qualified candidates.

NARD urged state governors to prioritize doctors’ welfare, ensure timely payment of MRTF, and take proactive steps to curb emigration while maintaining industrial harmony.

The association warned that failure to meet their demands within the specified timeframe would leave them with no option but to embark on a nationwide strike action.
