Edo PDP Slams Local Government Election Plan

The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has criticized the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission’s decision to hold local government elections in July 2026.
This development comes after the Edo State House of Assembly, led by Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, sacked all 18 Local Government Area chairmen in the state.
The assembly’s decision was based on directives from Governor Monday Okpebholo and a motion moved by Representative Isibor Adeh and seconded by Donald Okogbe.
Following the sack, the legislative arms of each council have been instructed to take over leadership responsibilities.
The dismissed council chairmen and their deputies were removed amid allegations of poor performance and questionable practices.
The PDP’s reaction to the planned election highlights growing tensions in the state’s political landscape.
