Obasanjo, Emir Sanusi, Osoba, Amosun, Senators Storm Abeokuta for Yemi Kolapo’s Daughter’s Wedding

Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, witnessed an extraordinary gathering of Nigeria’s political heavyweights, royal fathers, captains of industry and media leaders on Saturday, August 23, 2025, as the ancient city hosted one of its most glamorous society weddings of the year.

The occasion was the Nikkah of Faizah Omoteniola Kolapo, daughter of the Publisher of The Point Newspaper and Iya Sunnah of Egbaland, Dr. Yemi Kolapo, and her groom, AbdulHakeem Jimoh, son of retired Brigadier-General Olanrewaju Jimoh.

The ceremony, held at the expansive Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Marquee, was a blend of cultural elegance and Islamic solemnity, as leading figures from across Nigeria converged to celebrate the union.

Among the eminent dignitaries in attendance were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who played host at the OOPL grounds, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who added royal glamour to the occasion. Also present were two former governors of Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Chief Olusegun Osoba who joined other political leaders to felicitate with the families.

Diplomatic circles were represented by Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, while the military community turned out in force to honour the groom’s family, led by his father, a respected retired senior officer.

The ceremony also drew in a long list of senators, serving federal and state legislators, top government functionaries, media executives, business moguls and Islamic scholars, underscoring the wide network of goodwill commanded by Dr. Kolapo and Brig-Gen. Jimoh.

The Nikkah proper was officiated by leading Islamic clerics from within and outside Ogun State, who offered prayers for the couple’s union to be blessed with peace, love, prosperity and enduring companionship.

The OOPL Marquee radiated with colour and pageantry as traditional drummers, elegantly dressed aso-ebi guests and glittering décor transformed the venue into a dazzling celebration ground. The event combined rich Yoruba culture with Islamic traditions, making it both spiritually uplifting and socially memorable.

Guests were treated to exquisite cuisine, live performances and moments of camaraderie, as Abeokuta literally shut down to accommodate the large influx of dignitaries and well-wishers.

For many observers, the wedding was not only a celebration of love but also a showcase of Abeokuta’s place as a hub of Nigeria’s political, cultural and social elite.
