Police Launch Investigation as Political Gathering Linked to Ex-Governor El-Rufai Ends in Violence

The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following a political meeting allegedly linked to former governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai that reportedly ended in violence and gunfire.

The incident, which took place under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition, occurred without prior notification to security agencies.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, organizers proceeded with the meeting despite repeated warnings, creating a fertile ground for “political gangsters and thugs attached to the former Governor” to unleash violence.

Preliminary findings indicate that these individuals allegedly fired gunshots, causing chaos and disrupting public peace.

The police command has vowed to hold anyone found culpable accountable, regardless of their status.

“Anyone found culpable, irrespective of his personality and no matter how highly placed, if he acted contrary to the law, will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

As part of the inquiry, the police approached the ADC leadership, who have since denied any knowledge of the meeting and distanced themselves from the gathering. Party officials have also refuted claims linking the event to El-Rufai.

In response to the incident, the Command has announced new measures to prevent similar occurrences.

Hotels, event centers, and other venues will now be held liable for hosting political gatherings without first notifying security agencies.

This measure is intended to ensure due process and prevent miscreants from causing mayhem.

Furthermore, all “unauthorized political gatherings” in the state have been suspended until organizers ensure proper security arrangements are in place and due process is followed. The police emphasized that this move is in the interest of peace and public safety.
