Planned Power Outage to Disrupt Activities in Anambra, Enugu for Two Days

Residents of Anambra and parts of Enugu State are expected to experience a two-day power outage as the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) carries out scheduled maintenance at a major transmission facility.

The company announced in a statement on Saturday that the outage will run from Sunday, August 31 to Monday, September 1, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

EEDC explained that the blackout is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to replace defective overhead porcelain insulators at the 330kV switchyard in Awada, Anambra State.

The utility company noted that the disruption will affect customers across Anambra and those in Oji River and surrounding communities in Enugu State.

While apologising for the inconvenience, EEDC’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, appealed for understanding from residents, stressing that the maintenance is essential to enhance service delivery in the long term.

“This exercise will temporarily interrupt electricity supply to the affected areas, but it is aimed at improving the quality of power supply,” the company said.

The planned outage is expected to disrupt both household routines and business operations in the two states, raising concerns among traders, small enterprises, and residents who rely heavily on daily electricity for their livelihoods.
