Osimhen Scores as Galatasaray Extend Perfect Start with 3-1 Win Over Rizespor

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen continued his fine start to life in Turkey as he scored in Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Rizespor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday.
The 25-year-old striker rose highest to head home in the 65th minute, restoring Galatasaray’s lead after a tense first half that saw VAR drama.
His goal came at a crucial moment, reasserting the hosts’ dominance before Mauro Icardi sealed the win deep into stoppage time.
The game began brightly for the Istanbul giants when Colombian defender Davinson Sánchez opened the scoring in the 20th minute, nodding in Gabriel Sara’s well-taken corner.
Rizespor thought they had drawn level just before halftime when Dal Varesanovic found the back of the net, but their celebrations were cut short after VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
Galatasaray returned stronger in the second half, and Osimhen’s trademark header handed them a deserved advantage, sending the home fans into jubilation. Icardi then put the result beyond doubt in the 92nd minute, slotting home after being set up by Barış Alper Yılmaz.
The victory stretched Galatasaray’s winning run to four games, keeping them joint-top of the Süper Lig table with a perfect 12 points from four matches.
Osimhen’s strike was his second goal in as many games for Galatasaray, having also scored in the 4-0 rout of Kayserispor last weekend.
His consistent form has delighted both club supporters and Nigerian fans, who see him as a vital asset ahead of the Super Eagles’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Galatasaray will next turn their attention to European commitments before resuming league duties, while Osimhen looks set to play an increasingly pivotal role in their push for domestic and continental glory this season.
