FCT Minister’s Aide Clashes with Arise TV’s Rufai Oseni Over Journalistic Credentials

A heated exchange has erupted between Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and Rufai Oseni, a renowned broadcaster on Arise TV.

The clash began when Olayinka criticized Oseni’s journalistic credentials, citing his background in animal anatomy rather than journalism.

Olayinka emphasized the importance of formal training in journalism, suggesting that Oseni’s lack thereof disqualifies him as a true journalist.

He also questioned Oseni’s professionalism and personal life, advising him to seek marriage and a more responsible lifestyle.

Furthermore, Olayinka mentioned that Oseni is an ex-convict and lacks moral rights to speak in the congregation of law-abiding Nigerians.

Oseni, known for his incisive questioning style on Arise TV, has built a successful career in media despite lacking formal journalism education. He has earned recognition as a top broadcast journalist in Nigeria, with a degree in Animal Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and further training at the Lagos Business School.

The controversy surrounding Oseni’s qualifications and approach to journalism reflects broader discussions about the role of formal education in the field and the qualities that define a good journalist.

While some argue that formal education in journalism is essential, others believe that skills, experience, and integrity are more important.

This is not the first time Olayinka and Oseni have clashed. In December 2024, they had a heated exchange on Arise TV over a demolition notice issued by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) regarding a property allegedly owned by the family of late Col. Paul Ogbebor.

The controversy highlights the deepening rift between the government and its critics.
