FCT Minister Wike Optimistic on End to Rivers Emergency Rule

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed optimism that the state of emergency in Rivers State will come to an end on September 18.
He made this known after participating in the ongoing local government election in the state.
According to Wike, the expiration of the emergency rule will enable the state House of Assembly to resume its legislative functions. He described the election as peaceful, noting that citizens are turning out to cast their votes.
Wike believes the conditions are ripe for lifting the state of emergency, given that both the state and local governments now have representation.
He stated that with the expiration of the emergency rule, a government at the grassroots level will be in place.
The state of emergency was imposed by President Bola Tinubu to prevent a political crisis, resulting in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly for six months. Wike’s comments suggest that the situation in Rivers State is stabilizing, paving the way for a return to normalcy.
