Benue Police Nab Kidnap Kingpin, Yusuf Mohammed, 21 Accomplices

The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnap kingpin, along with 21 other individuals, in Orokam, situated within the Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state.

The alleged mastermind, Yusuf Muhammed, was captured in connection with a series of kidnapping incidents plaguing the region.

Our correspondent reports that the ringleader was apprehended during a meticulously planned operation, following an extensive pursuit by law enforcement officials over several days. Sources reveal that the suspect, who is physically challenged and known by the moniker “OC Torture” among his associates, was identified by some of his victims, aiding the police in their efforts to apprehend him.

This crackdown on the gang responsible for terrorizing the area was initiated after a spike in kidnapping activities, which tragically included the murder of a mother and her visiting son during a botched abduction attempt, among other incidents.

This alarming situation prompted the Chairman of Ogbadibo LGA, Sunday Ajunwa, to enforce a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Orokam approximately two weeks ago, following public protests over the escalating crisis.

“The Commissioner of Police dispatched a tactical team, comprising the Mobile Police Squad and Civil Protection Guards, to thoroughly search Orokam and its surroundings. Their operation has yielded the successful outcome we are celebrating today.

“It underscores the fact that with the collaboration of local communities, law enforcement, and other security agencies, we can achieve our objectives and curb criminal activities in society,” he stated.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ogbadibo LGA, Mr. Sunday Ajunwa, remarked, “It is indeed true that Yusuf has been apprehended by a joint team of police officers from Makurdi and Enugu, as well as local vigilantes.

“He attempted to flee, but the local youth gave chase and apprehended him. Those he abducted have provided confessional statements detailing the torture they endured in captivity. He is now in police custody, alongside 21 others.

“Yusuf is of Fulani descent. The security situation in Orokam is stable, although the curfew from 6 pm to 6 am remains in effect. However, I am considering lifting it after consultations with security agencies and stakeholders.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, stated that she has yet to be briefed on the matter.

“I believe the individual in Orokam is supposed to convey that message to us for confirmation. However, I have not yet received such information,” she commented.
