West Ham Snub Loan Offer for Manchester United’s André Onana

West Ham United have rejected the chance to sign Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana on loan, despite the Cameroonian shot-stopper slipping down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Reports indicate that United were open to allowing Onana to leave temporarily after new manager Ruben Amorim opted for a different first-choice option. However, West Ham made it clear that the 28-year-old was not viewed as an upgrade on their current goalkeeping options.
The Hammers had only recently signed Mads Hermansen from Leicester City, but the Dane has endured a shaky start to life in East London. Manager Graham Potter is believed to be seeking reinforcements between the posts, yet the club’s recruitment team concluded that Onana was not the right fit.
Instead, talks have been held with Hull City’s Ivor Pandur, while interest in Botafogo’s John Victor has also been reignited.
Adding to the speculation, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stressed that rumours of Onana’s possible move to West Ham have been overstated, noting that there have been no formal discussions between the two clubs.
Onana, who joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023, has faced scrutiny since his arrival in England. Despite flashes of quality, inconsistency has marred his time at Old Trafford, and with Amorim’s tactical reshuffle, his long-term future at the club appears uncertain.
For West Ham, the decision to turn down Onana underscores a cautious approach as Potter reshapes the squad. The club remains in the market for a reliable goalkeeper but is determined to find a player who fits both the team’s style of play and long-term plans.
