Police Rescue 7-Year-Old, Arrest Kidnap Suspect in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has commended the efforts of its Special Squad I for the swift arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the safe rescue of a seven-year-old boy held captive in Ijegun.
According to police reports, the child’s father complained at Alapere Division on August 25, 2025, after discovering that his son had been taken by a painter working in the family’s home. Shortly after, the suspect contacted the boy’s mother and demanded ₦7 million ransom for his release.
The case was immediately escalated to the Special Squad I for discreet investigation. Within two days, operatives traced the suspect, 32-year-old Chigozie Michael Clement, to a locked room in Ijegun, where the boy was found unharmed and reunited with his family.
During interrogation, Clement confessed to the crime, claiming financial difficulties motivated his actions. The police noted that investigations are still ongoing to determine whether he had accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the operatives for their swift action and assured Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to deploying all available resources to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
