Gold Fields Report Decline in Ghanaian Gold Output

Gold Fields, Africa’s largest gold producer, has announced a 10% decrease in gold production from its Ghanaian operations in the first half of 2025.
The company’s Tarkwa and Damang mines produced 284,600 ounces, down from 319,600 ounces in the same period last year.
Tarkwa’s production fell to 232,900 ounces, compared to 247,700 ounces in 2024, while Damang’s output declined to 51,700 ounces from 71,900 ounces. Despite the drop, Gold Fields noted that the performance aligns with its expectations.
The company anticipates Tarkwa’s annual production to decrease to 488,000 ounces, down from 537,000 ounces in 2024, due to an ongoing stripping program.
Damang, which is nearing the end of its operational life, is expected to produce 85,000 ounces this year, significantly lower than the 135,000 ounces produced in 2024.
However, Gold Fields has made progress at Damang, signing a transitional management agreement with the Ghanaian government to explore extending the mine’s life.
Mining activities resumed at the site in June, and a feasibility study is currently underway to assess the potential for prolonged operations.
The company will provide further updates on the impact of this strategy on its performance in the coming months.
