Garnacho’s £40m Chelsea Acquisition Nears Completion After Arrival in London

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, with the Argentine winger arriving in London on Thursday ahead of his medical and final contract formalities.
The two clubs have agreed a £40 million fee for the 21-year-old, which includes a 10 percent sell-on clause for Manchester United. The deal represents one of the most significant outgoing transfers in United’s history, particularly for a player developed through their academy system.
Garnacho, who fell out of favour under United manager Ruben Amorim and was omitted from the club’s pre-season tour, is expected to sign a seven-year deal with Chelsea that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the winger’s arrival at Cobham, saying: “He’s a winger. I see him as a winger, and that’s how we plan to use him.” Reports indicate Garnacho had been determined to remain in the Premier League, turning down interest from overseas clubs to secure his move to London.
For United, the transfer underscores the club’s summer overhaul, as Amorim continues reshaping the squad. Garnacho’s sale follows the departures of several other academy graduates in a bid to streamline the wage bill and rebuild for the long term.
At Chelsea, Garnacho will bring pace, creativity, and direct attacking threat, qualities that Maresca has prioritised as he looks to bolster his options out wide. His signing also aligns with Chelsea’s strategy of investing in young, high-potential talents on long-term contracts.
The transfer is expected to be officially announced once Garnacho passes his medical, with Stamford Bridge preparing to welcome its newest attacking star ahead of the Premier League campaign.
