Akpabuyo Celebrates 34th Anniversary with Renewed Hope and Festivities

The people of Akpabuyo Local Government Area in Cross River State have marked the 34th anniversary of the council’s creation with vibrant cultural displays, communal festivities, and a renewed sense of optimism for peace, security, and prosperity.

Dr. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, former PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, praised Governor Bassey Otu for restoring peace in the area, noting that the current calm atmosphere has enabled the community to come together and celebrate.

She highlighted Akpabuyo’s strategic location as a natural maritime gateway and expressed confidence that ongoing government investments in dredging, deep-sea port development, and marine ecosystem preservation will boost economic growth and job creation.

The celebration featured the reopening of Akpabuyo’s historic barter trade market, which had been shut for years due to insecurity. The market’s revival is expected to enhance economic activity and provide opportunities for farmers, fishermen, and traders.

Akpabuyo Local Government Chairman, Effiom Effiong, credited the prevailing peace for the success of the event and announced plans to remodel the barter market into a world-class commercial hub.

He also urged youths to preserve their cultural heritage, particularly the Efik language, and noted that the council is working to attract investors and promote economic growth.

The anniversary showcased Akpabuyo’s resilience and growing economic importance, highlighting its potential role in shaping Nigeria’s maritime and agricultural future.
