NLC Inaugurates Caretaker Committee in Edo Despite Government Resistance

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has gone ahead with the inauguration of its caretaker committee in Edo State, despite efforts by the state government to stop the event.
The committee, headed by Prof. Monday Igbafen, was inaugurated at a secret venue after the Adams Oshiomhole Labour House was locked down by security agents.
The Edo State House of Assembly had passed a resolution asking the NLC to shelve the inauguration and work with Comrade Bernard Egwakhide, but the national leadership of the NLC went ahead with the event.
The Acting National Secretary of the NLC, Benson Upah, said the state government was trying to frustrate the union’s efforts to inaugurate the caretaker committee.
The NLC leaders were forced to change the venue of the inauguration after the Labour House was barricaded by security agents. Some labour leaders from neighboring states who attended the event expressed regret that they could not access the Labour House.
The NLC has urged the caretaker committee to resolve all issues and ensure new executives are elected. The development highlights the ongoing tensions between the NLC and the Edo State government.
