Kebbi Governor Approves Appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as New Emir of Zuru

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as the new Emir of Zuru.

His emergence follows the death of the former Emir, Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II, who passed away on August 16, 2025, at a London hospital.

Presenting the appointment letter to the new Emir on Thursday in Zuru, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsin-Mari, said the decision was based on the recommendation of the Zuru Emir-ship election committee.

According to him, three candidates contested for the throne, but Sami secured the highest votes, leading to his confirmation by the committee and subsequent approval by the governor.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for endorsing the appointment and urged the new monarch to justify the confidence reposed in him. He further advised the Emir to lead with fairness and the fear of God.

Meanwhile, Governor Idris has cautioned former officials of the Muhammadu Buhari administration against criticizing President Bola Tinubu over security challenges, stressing that the issues were inherited.

Speaking during a special prayer at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi to mark the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation, the governor noted that insecurity in the country predates the current government.

He recalled that when banditry affected parts of southern Kebbi, he sought federal intervention through the Chief of Defence Staff, who promptly deployed 10 armoured personnel carriers to stabilize the situation.

Governor Idris also accused some Abuja-based politicians of Kebbi origin of politicizing the government’s security response instead of supporting efforts to restore peace.
