28 Days After Defection, Comr. Odih Rowland Returns to PDP, Issues Public Apology

Barely four weeks after dumping the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), veteran politician Comrade Odih Rowland has made a dramatic return to his former party.
In a letter addressed to the PDP leadership on Thursday, Rowland tendered an unreserved apology for what he described as a “grave mistake” in leaving the party that, according to him, “nurtured my political career for 24 years.”
The former ADC member, who defected on August 1, 2025, admitted he had come to appreciate the core values of the PDP, noting its “commitment to truth, justice, internal democracy, and national progress.”
“I want to apologize to the entire PDP leadership, members, and supporters for my actions. I realize now that my impact will be more significant in PDP than in any other party,” Rowland wrote in his statement of apology.
Rowland further praised the leadership style of the PDP National Chairman, describing it as a strong indication of the party’s readiness to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.
He added that his decision to return was influenced by the appeals of his ward, local government, state, and national party leaders who urged him to retrace his steps.
“Following their urging, I have decided to return to PDP with my supporters. I pledge to work tirelessly for the party’s victory in 2027,” he affirmed.
Rowland’s swift political U-turn has generated mixed reactions in political circles, with some viewing it as a reaffirmation of PDP’s growing momentum ahead of 2027, while others see it as a reflection of the instability and frequent defections within Nigeria’s political landscape.
