Yobe Govt Relocates 250 Households After Devastating Floods

The Yobe State Government has commenced the relocation of 250 households from Garin Kolo in Nangere Local Government Area following severe floods that destroyed homes and polluted water sources.
The exercise, launched on Tuesday under the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, is part of efforts to safeguard the lives and dignity of affected families.
Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) said 22 temporary shelters had been set up to accommodate more than 200 people, with more facilities being prepared.
“A water reservoir has been installed, five emergency toilets provided, and an ambulance stationed for medical referrals,” he explained. “Personnel from the NSCDC and Police have ensured the safety of lives and property throughout the operation.
Vulnerable individuals requiring medical attention were promptly referred to General Hospital Nangere.”
The agency confirmed that each displaced household had received food baskets, with arrangements underway to sustain and expand relief support in the coming days.
“Governor Buni remains committed to mobilising all available resources to ensure that every affected family from Garin Kolo is relocated with safety, dignity, and hope for recovery,” the YOSEMA boss added.
He expressed appreciation to the Emir of Tikau, Nangere LGA authorities, the State Ministry of Health, RUWASA, NSCDC, Police, and other partners for their coordinated efforts in making the intervention possible.
The government also appealed to humanitarian partners, donors, and the general public to support the ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
