Syria Condemns Israeli Drone Strike That Killed Six Soldiers Near Damascus

Syria has condemned an Israeli drone strike that killed six of its soldiers on the outskirts of Damascus, calling it a violation of its sovereignty and international law. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday in the town of Kiswah, south of the capital, struck Syrian military positions, leaving several soldiers dead and others wounded.
State media reported the fatalities, while monitoring groups confirmed that the strikes also targeted roads linking Damascus to southern provinces, disrupting movement in the area. In a separate incident, another Israeli strike hit the village of Taranja in the Golan Heights, killing a young civilian.
In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Syria’s Foreign Ministry denounced the attack as part of Israel’s “systematic policy of aggression” against its territory. The ministry urged the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to hold Israel accountable and prevent further escalations. It also reaffirmed Syria’s right to defend itself in line with international law.
Israel has not officially commented on the latest strike, but its leaders have in the past defended such actions as necessary to counter threats from Syrian-based armed groups and to protect its northern border regions. Israel has carried out frequent air and drone strikes in Syria over the years, often targeting military sites and supply routes used by groups it considers hostile.
The latest escalation comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and fragile diplomatic efforts. Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, recently stated that Israeli forces would remain deployed in strategic positions inside Syria, particularly around Mount Hermon, to safeguard its security interests.
Observers warn that continued attacks risk further destabilising Syria and complicating ongoing talks aimed at easing tensions along the volatile border areas.
