Osun APC Faults Governor Adeleke Over Supreme Court Case on Withheld LG Funds

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has sharply criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for dragging the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the alleged withholding of local government allocations.

Governor Adeleke, who recently refiled a case at the apex court after withdrawing a similar suit weeks ago, is seeking the release of statutory allocations directly to local councils.

He insists that the current arrangement undermines local government autonomy and development.

But in a statement on Wednesday, the Osun APC described the governor’s action as “confused, inconsistent, and politically motivated.”

The party’s spokesperson, Chief Kola Olabisi, said Adeleke’s repeated back-and-forth with the court portrayed his administration as “rudderless and incompetent.”

According to him, “this government is disorientated, lacking diplomacy, and unable to manage its own contradictions.”

The APC further alleged that Adeleke was playing politics with grassroots funding while simultaneously being accused of stifling council administrations within the state.

“This legal adventure is nothing but a ploy to cover up his government’s failures,” the party added.

The matter has now drawn national attention, as several civil society groups and state governments are watching closely.

The Supreme Court is expected to decide whether the Federal Government has the right to withhold allocations meant for local governments or if state governors can continue to exercise control over them.

While the APC maintains that Adeleke’s approach exposes “serious administrative shortcomings,” the Osun State Government has defended the move, insisting it is aimed at securing financial independence for local councils.
