Is Peter Mbah Joining APC as PDP Flags Removed from Enugu State Government House?

Political tension heightened in Enugu on Tuesday as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flags were reportedly removed from the Enugu State Government House, just hours after Governor Peter Mbah held a closed-door meeting with some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC).
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the PDP flags, which had long adorned strategic points within the premises, were taken down late in the evening. The development has triggered speculation about the Governor’s next political move, particularly in light of ongoing rumours about his possible defection to the APC.
Governor Mbah, who was elected under the PDP in 2023, has in recent weeks absented himself from PDP governors’ meetings and other opposition consultations. His silence has further deepened uncertainty within the party.
Earlier this year, the APC’s Enugu State chairman had warned that the party would resist attempts by Mbah to join its fold, while national reports suggested conditions may have been presented to him as part of high-level political negotiations.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Enugu State Government nor the PDP and APC leadership have issued official statements on the flag removal or the alleged meeting.
The situation has left political watchers on edge, as Enugu traditionally a PDP strongholdfaces renewed questions about its future political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
