Taraba Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali Returns to Jalingo After Months of Absence

The Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, has returned to Jalingo, the state capital, after being away from the public eye for several months.

His absence, which had long stirred speculation and raised concerns among citizens and political observers, appears to have come to a pause with his quiet reappearance on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

According to reports by Daily Trust, Alkali arrived through Yalo Airport before being driven in a convoy of four vehicles to Government House. Unlike what is usually expected for a top government official, his return was devoid of ceremony, with no official statement from the government and no media presence at the airport to capture the moment.

Short video clips later surfaced online, confirming his presence in the state capital.
Insiders revealed that upon his return, the deputy governor went briefly into his office at Government House and met with a few senior aides.

The meeting was described as private, with no formal press briefing or photo session to mark the occasion.
Alhaji Alkali’s prolonged absence has been a major talking point in Taraba politics since late 2024. Several national newspapers earlier reported that he had been away on medical grounds, though the state government consistently avoided giving detailed explanations.

For much of 2025, his silence and physical absence left room for speculation, with many citizens calling for greater transparency.

Governor Agbu Kefas, addressing the issue earlier this month, had urged Tarabans to show empathy rather than politicize the matter. “This is about health, not politics.

We must remember that public leaders are also human and need our prayers,” he said, appealing for patience and understanding.
Despite these appeals, pressure had been mounting from opposition groups and civil society organizations who questioned the handling of information concerning the deputy governor’s condition.

They argued that citizens deserved to know the status of their elected leaders, particularly when their ability to perform official functions was in question.

Interestingly, this is not the first time reports of Alkali’s return have made the rounds. In May 2025, some media outlets reported that he had reappeared briefly in Jalingo after months of absence, but conflicting accounts at the time left the public unsure about the true situation.

His latest reemergence, however, seems more definitive, as credible sources confirm his presence in the state capital.

Still, uncertainty lingers. The state government has yet to issue a formal update on his health status, his readiness to resume official duties, or the next steps regarding his role in the administration.

For now, many Tarabans remain watchful, waiting for an official announcement that could either settle public concern or raise fresh questions about governance and leadership in the state.

Alhaji Aminu Alkali’s return marks a significant moment in Taraba’s political landscape, one that could either restore confidence in the state’s leadership or fuel ongoing debates about transparency and accountability in public office.
