Rivers Youths Flog Police Officer, Others Over Alleged Drug Use

Tension gripped Nkpolu community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State after youths publicly flogged a serving police officer alongside two other men for allegedly indulging in hard drugs.
Eyewitnesses said the incident, which occurred during the weekend, drew a large crowd as the young men accused the officer and his companions of setting a bad example in the community. The mob reportedly seized them at a popular junction before administering the punishment with canes.
Community leaders noted that the action was part of ongoing efforts by youths to curb the rising abuse of illicit substances in the area. They stressed that the involvement of a uniformed officer made the matter even more disturbing.
While many residents praised the youths for taking a stand against drug abuse, others criticised the method, warning that such mob actions could escalate into lawlessness if not properly addressed.
As of press time, the Rivers State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
