Kwara NDLEA Makes Significant Bust, Seizes 2.318 Tons of Cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State has achieved notable success in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, seizing 2.318 tons of cannabis with an estimated street value in billions of naira.

The state commander, Hajia Fatima Popoola, disclosed this during a press conference held in Ilorin on Tuesday.

The cannabis was intercepted in two separate operations conducted along the Offa and Omu Aran axis of the state command, in the early hours of the morning.

Four suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, which involved concealing the illicit substance among sacks of sawdust in Canter trucks.

The NDLEA boss attributed the success of the operation to the synergy among sister security agencies, including the police, army, civil defence, and traditional rulers.

She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his senior adviser, Alh Saadu Salahu, commended the NDLEA for the remarkable achievement.

He highlighted the need for continued awareness campaigns on the dangers of illicit drugs, particularly among the younger generation, and pledged the state’s support for the agency’s efforts.

The seizure is one of the largest made by the NDLEA in recent times, underscoring the agency’s commitment to tackling the menace of drug trafficking in the state.

The NDLEA’s efforts have yielded significant results, with over 2,000 kilograms of drugs seized between January and August 2025, compared to only 2 tons seized in the whole of 2024.
