Igboho Alleges Betrayal in DSS Raid, Says Cat Was Targeted to End His Life

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has alleged that a close associate betrayed him during the July 2021 midnight raid on his Ibadan residence by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Igboho made the allegation over the weekend during a courtesy visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, in Owo, Ondo State.
He recounted the events of the invasion, claiming that the betrayal of a trusted aide allowed DSS operatives to gain access to his room. According to him, the security agents targeted his cat in a spiritual attempt to terminate his life.
“When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed. They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you, my fathers, worked for me. Unfortunately, one of my friends betrayed me, which led to the killing of my cat during the operation. It was a direct attempt on my life,” Igboho said.
The activist, however, did not disclose the identity of the alleged betrayer.
Igboho has long maintained that the DSS invasion was politically motivated and aimed at silencing his agitation for Yoruba self-determination. The raid, which left at least two of his aides dead and several others arrested, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from his supporters and human rights groups.
Since returning to Nigeria earlier this year after a period of exile in Benin Republic, Igboho has resumed consultations with traditional rulers and stakeholders in the South-West over his campaign for regional autonomy.
