‘Death Follows Us Everywhere’: Gaza Resident Lament Escalating Strikes

As Israel prepares for a fresh push into Gaza City, residents say the bombardment has left them trapped in constant fear, with nowhere safe to run.
“The situation is extremely dangerous… Each day, each minute, there are bombings, martyrs, death and blood, we can’t take it anymore,” said Ibrahim Al-Shurafa, speaking from the Al-Sabra neighbourhood.
He described the airstrikes as relentless: “We don’t know where to go. Death follows us everywhere.”
Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that at least 42 people were killed in attacks across the territory on Sunday alone.
Among them were eight casualties from a strike on Al-Sabra, according to agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal. Other neighbourhoods were also hit, though the full toll was still being assessed.
The Israeli army has not commented on the reported figures. Media restrictions inside Gaza make independent verification difficult, but humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned of the mounting civilian losses.
The war erupted after Hamas launched an assault on Israel in October 2023, killing 1,219 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official data.
Since then, Israel’s offensive has claimed the lives of at least 62,686 Palestinians, most identified as civilians, according to the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, figures the United Nations continues to cite as reliable.
