The insurgency has persisted for Too Long; it must be resolved promptly, Insists Buratai

Former Nigerian Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Tukur Buratai, emphasized that the nation’s enduring security challenges have persisted for far too long and must be swiftly concluded.
“It is truly regrettable that these security issues have lingered excessively. Insurgency has deeply infiltrated society,” he remarked.
Appearing on Channel Television’s Sunrise program, Buratai elaborated on the ongoing security crises, stressing that insurgency is a protracted concern necessitating a comprehensive strategy that involves the government, communities, and individuals alike.
The former COAS underscored the significance of community resilience, the moral and welfare support for soldiers, and the imperative of a holistic approach that extends beyond military measures alone.
He advocated for the establishment of state police while warning against political interference, emphasizing the need for well-defined operational guidelines and mature governance structures.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s political environment, Buratai noted recurring patterns in its political evolution, urging caution, dialogue, and unity amidst escalating political tensions nationwide.
Although he has ventured into politics and joined a party, Buratai currently identifies as a statesman and businessman, signaling a readiness for future political roles but without immediate aspirations.
Buratai’s television interview highlighted the intricacies of Nigeria’s security and political milieu, calling for collective responsibility and support to effectively tackle these challenges.
