PDP Governors Urge Unity Ahead of National Convention

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on party members and supporters across the country to close ranks and work together for the success of the party’s forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The governors warned against the activities of what they described as anti-democratic forces, insisting that only a united PDP can provide Nigerians with a credible alternative and restore the country on the path of genuine national development.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP Governors Forum after a meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the forum’s chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, said the convention would serve as a turning point for repositioning the party.
“The PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable alternative that can rescue Nigeria from its current challenges. We therefore urge all members and supporters to put aside differences, shun divisive tendencies, and ensure the success of the convention,” Mohammed said while reading the communiqué of the meeting to journalists.
The Gusau meeting, hosted by Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, had in attendance Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara). The governors of Enugu and Plateau States were, however, absent.
The PDP governors reiterated their commitment to internal democracy and collective decision-making, stressing that the party’s strength lies in its ability to resolve disputes amicably and present a united front.
They also assured Nigerians that the party would continue to engage stakeholders and mobilize grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forum commended the host governor, Dauda Lawal, for his efforts in restoring peace and rebuilding Zamfara State despite the daunting security and economic challenges confronting the state.
