Gombe Upgrades 114 Primary Health Centres to Boost Healthcare

The Gombe State Government has commissioned 114 revitalised Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state, marking a significant milestone in its drive toward universal health coverage.

Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Yahaya at the commissioning ceremony in Akko on Saturday, said the initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

“Health is too important to be delayed in reporting and responding. There must be no time to waste or wait on any health challenge,” Jatau stressed.

He noted that since 2019, the state government has consistently prioritised healthcare, raising the sector’s budgetary allocation from 3.5 percent in 2019 to 15 percent in 2025, in line with the Abuja Declaration target.

According to him, the Yahaya administration has also invested in strengthening healthcare institutions and systems to ensure that residents, particularly in rural communities, have access to quality and affordable medical services.

The revitalised facilities are expected to enhance maternal and child healthcare, immunisation coverage, and disease prevention programmes across the state.

Health experts present at the event commended the government for the intervention, noting that the upgraded centres would reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary hospitals while improving overall health outcomes in Gombe.
