I’ve No Hand in Plot to Impeach Benue Speaker, Says Alia

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed speculations linking him to an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh.
The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, in Makurdi on Friday, said he was neither aware of nor involved in any move to unseat the Speaker.
“Governor Hyacinth Alia is not aware of, and has no involvement whatsoever in, any purported attempt to remove the Speaker or in any activities currently taking place in the Benue State House of Assembly,” the statement read in part.
He emphasized his respect for the principle of separation of powers and stressed that his administration continues to hold the legislature in the highest regard.
According to him, the government has always responded promptly to communications and resolutions from the House, citing recent instances where critical decisions of the Assembly were implemented without delay.
Governor Alia further noted that he enjoys a cordial and productive working relationship with the Speaker and members of the Assembly, adding that he remains committed to providing the necessary support to enable lawmakers carry out their constitutional duties effectively.
He urged political stakeholders and the public to disregard rumours of his involvement in the alleged impeachment plot, reaffirming his focus on fostering peace, stability, and development across the state.
