Ekiti 2026: PDP Promises Better Governance as Aspirants Outline Vision to Transform Lives
As the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election approaches, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has positioned itself as a strong contender, with party aspirants pledging to restore good governance and improve the standard of living for residents across the state.
Among the leading aspirants is Dr. Wole Oluyede, who formally declared his intention to run in August 2025 in Ikere Ekiti. Oluyede criticized the current administration for neglecting critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
He dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a minor player, describing the PDP and APC as the main competitors.
“The people of Ekiti deserve leadership that prioritizes their welfare, and PDP is prepared to deliver,” Oluyede said during his declaration.
Another aspirant, Dr. Peter Obafemi, an aviation expert, highlighted the declining performance of Ekiti students in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) under the current administration.
Obafemi pledged to implement free education from primary to tertiary levels and to revitalize the state’s agricultural sector to boost economic growth and create employment opportunities for residents.
Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, younger brother of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, is also in the race. He expressed confidence that his wife private sector experience equips him to bring prosperity to Ekiti. Fayose emphasized that while political endorsements are important, the ultimate decision rests with the voters, asserting that influence alone cannot guarantee electoral success.
The PDP has intensified grassroots mobilization through rallies and community engagement, emphasizing unity and collective action within the party. Despite occasional defections, party leaders remain confident that PDP is well-positioned to reclaim governance in Ekiti and deliver on its promises.
With the election drawing closer, PDP aspirants have made improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development central to their campaigns. Their shared commitment is to restore better living conditions for the people of Ekiti, offering voters an alternative to the current administration and a renewed vision for the state’s progress.
