Edo PDP Declares Three Days of Mourning for Late Pioneer Chairman, Solomon Aguele

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of its late pioneer state chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele, who passed away recently.

The mourning period, which began on Thursday, August 21, 2025, will see all political activities and engagements of the party suspended across the state as members unite to pay tribute to the late leader.

In a statement signed by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, the party described Chief Aguele as a man of wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to democratic values.

It noted that during his tenure as the first state chairman of the party from 1999 to 2007, he played a pivotal role in establishing the PDP as a formidable political force in Edo State, leaving behind a legacy of inclusiveness, unity, and loyalty.

The PDP announced that a condolence register has been opened at its secretariat, located at 20 Aiguobasimwin Crescent, Benin City, for members, leaders, and the general public to express their sympathy and reflect on the life and contributions of the late chairman.

Describing his passing as a huge loss, the party emphasized that Chief Aguele’s leadership style, marked by selfless service and deep devotion to the development of Edo State, will continue to inspire generations of party members and leaders. It recalled his immense role in building the foundation of the party’s structures and fostering democratic participation at the grassroots.

Tributes have continued to pour in from political associates, party faithful, and community leaders who remember him as a unifying force and a committed advocate of fairness, justice, and progress. Many noted that his calm and principled approach to leadership earned him respect across party lines, making him a reference point in Edo’s political history.
While the Edo PDP family and the larger political community mourn his death, the party has pledged to uphold the ideals and values he championed, ensuring that his memory remains a guiding light in the pursuit of democracy and service to the people.
