Ogun APC Ratifies Suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ratified the indefinite suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin over alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
The decision was taken by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) following recommendations from local party organs in Sagamu Local Government Area, where both politicians hail from.
According to reports from the party’s disciplinary committees in Wards 4 and 6, multiple petitions were submitted by party members accusing Daniel and Folarin of actions deemed detrimental to the party’s interest.
Among the allegations were claims of anti-party conduct during recent elections, harassment of party members who filed petitions, and deliberate refusal to appear before the disciplinary panels despite being officially invited.
The SWC, during its meeting held in Abeokuta and presided over by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, reviewed the findings and unanimously voted to uphold the suspension.
The meeting, attended by 16 SWC members, concluded that the conduct of the two suspended members violated the APC constitution and posed a threat to party unity and discipline.
In an official statement released by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Nuberu Olufemi, the SWC said the ratification of the suspension was necessary to protect the integrity of the party and reinforce the importance of internal discipline. He stated that no member, regardless of status or past achievements, is above the party’s constitution and disciplinary mechanisms.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State and currently representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, has yet to respond to the suspension. Attempts to reach his media team were unsuccessful as of press time.
The APC leadership in the state noted that the suspension remains indefinite, pending further investigations and possible recommendations for expulsion. The party emphasized that the suspended members retain the right to appeal to the APC National Working Committee.
The development comes amid ongoing internal efforts to reposition the party in Ogun State ahead of future elections. Observers believe the move could significantly impact the party’s dynamics in the state, especially considering Daniel’s political influence and history. The APC at the national level has not yet issued any statement regarding the matter.
