Niger State Secures $100 Million Livestock Deal with Saudi Arabia

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, announced a $100 million livestock offtake agreement with the Saudi Export and Import Bank. This deal is expected to boost Nigeria’s non-oil export drive and position Niger State as a key player in global protein supply chains.

The agreement begins with a $10 million first tranche and is part of a larger effort to tap into the $2.5 billion annual opportunity in the Middle East. Governor Bago revealed that the partnership would focus on supplying livestock to the Middle East, leveraging Niger State’s vast resources to meet the growing demand for meat and animal by-products.

A strategic partnership between Niger State and Lagos State has been established, with Lagos serving as the consumer and logistics hub. The two states have pledged to work together to develop the agricultural sector and promote non-oil exports. As part of the partnership, Niger State will allocate up to 100,000 hectares of farmland to support Lagos’ agricultural needs, branded as “Lagos Farm”.

The collaboration extends to logistics modernization, with the deployment of LNG-powered cold-chain trucks to revolutionize meat distribution in Nigeria. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of meat supply, meeting the demands of the growing market.

The agreement is expected to contribute significantly to the growth and development of Nigeria’s economy, promoting non-oil exports and diversifying the country’s revenue streams. By focusing on value-added agriculture and modernizing logistics, the partnership between Niger State and Lagos State seeks to unlock new opportunities for economic growth and food security.
