Governor Alia Implements Assembly Resolution, Suspends Three Officials

Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the suspension of three public officials in compliance with a resolution passed by the State House of Assembly.
The affected officials include the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper. Each of them will serve a one-month suspension.
The Assembly had earlier directed their suspension, but the governor’s initial delay in endorsing the resolution sparked a brief standoff between the legislature and the executive.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia confirmed the suspensions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to due process and constitutional principles.
“Governor Alia reiterates his unwavering commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principles of separation of powers.
“He commends the House of Assembly for exercising its constitutional responsibilities and assures the people of Benue State that his administration remains dedicated to transparency, accountability, and good governance,” the statement read in part.
The governor further urged the affected institutions to ensure continuity of services during the suspension period, while calling on citizens to continue supporting his administration’s efforts toward building a more accountable and inclusive state.
