COAS Promises Improved Welfare for Soldiers, Commissions Projects in Port Harcourt

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured personnel of the Nigerian Army of better welfare and working conditions, saying the challenges facing soldiers will be addressed squarely.

Oluyede gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking to journalists at the end of his three-day official visit to the Headquarters of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He explained that with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, concerted efforts are being made to improve the quality of life for soldiers and their families.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to enhancing the welfare of its officers and men. We are working with the Federal Government to ensure that the sacrifices of our troops do not go unnoticed. Our priority is to make life better for them and their families,” he said.

During the visit, the COAS commissioned several projects within the 6 Division area of responsibility, interacted with troops, and held discussions with critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta region. He noted that such engagements are essential to strengthening civil-military relations and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Oluyede also used the opportunity to commend the resilience and professionalism of troops serving in the Niger Delta, urging them to remain steadfast in their duties despite prevailing security and operational challenges.

The Army Chief’s visit is part of ongoing efforts to boost the morale of troops, assess their needs firsthand, and foster collaboration with host communities for improved security in the area.
