We Won’t Tolerate Falsehood, Abia Warns Detractors

The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups allegedly circulating falsehood about its activities, vowing to take legal action against purveyors of misinformation if necessary.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, gave the warning on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia.
Kanu noted that while the administration welcomes constructive criticism, it will not condone deliberate attempts to mislead the public or distort facts about government programmes and policies.
“The state government wants to use this medium to warn in very strong terms the detractors that are going out of their way to publish falsehoods about the activities of the state,” the commissioner said.
He stressed that the Otti-led government remains committed to transparency and accountability, and urged residents to rely on official communication channels for accurate information on government affairs.
“This state government has never been averse to criticism, particularly if they are constructive,” he added. “But deliberate falsehoods aimed at discrediting the administration will not be tolerated.”
The commissioner assured that the government will continue to focus on its developmental agenda and will not be distracted by what he described as “sponsored propaganda.”
