Peter Obi Decries Assault on Female Corps Member in Anambra

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the brutal assault on a female National Youth Service Corps member, Jennifer Elobor, by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
The incident, captured on video, shows Elobor being beaten and stripped naked by the vigilantes, sparking widespread outrage.
Describing the incident as “inhumane” and “primitive,” Obi expressed deep sadness and shame that such an incident could occur in 2025, a time when society should have advanced beyond such barbaric acts.
“No society should tolerate the abuse, humiliation, or dehumanization of its citizens, especially women and the vulnerable,” he emphasized.
Obi urged the authorities to ensure the perpetrators are arrested, prosecuted, and punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
“I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are not only apprehended and prosecuted but also made examples to deter future acts of savagery,” he said.
The Anambra State Government has already confirmed the arrest of the vigilante operatives involved.
Beyond prosecution, Obi advocated for stronger policies and community safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold the dignity of every Nigerian.
“Our humanity must always come first. Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty,” he added.
The National Youth Service Corps has also condemned the assault, stressing that justice must be served.
The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, with many Nigerians demanding immediate investigation and prosecution of the vigilante operatives involved.
