Governor Oyebanji Returns Olatunbosun to Cabinet as Information Commissioner

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has brought back former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Taiwo Olatunbosun, into the State Executive Council, just a week after dissolving his cabinet.

The announcement was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habaibat Adubiaro, dated August 18, 2025.

According to the directive, Olatunbosun is to resume his role immediately as Commissioner for Information.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

The recall follows Oyebanji’s dissolution of the State Executive Council on August 11, when all commissioners and special advisers were directed to hand over to the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries and agencies.

At the time, the governor had explained that the decision was taken to inject fresh energy into governance and to further align his administration with the “shared prosperity” agenda.

Observers note that while Oyebanji had initially retained six commissioners overseeing critical portfolios such as Finance, Works, and Human Capital Development to ensure continuity, the swift return of Olatunbosun suggests a deliberate effort to strengthen communication and public engagement at a sensitive period of government restructuring.

Taiwo Olatunbosun, a seasoned journalist and politician, had previously served in the same capacity under the Oyebanji administration before the dissolution.

His reinstatement is seen as a move to stabilize the government’s information management machinery and sustain a seamless relationship with the public.

The governor is expected to announce further appointments in the coming days as the process of reconstituting the cabinet continues.
