Anambra Police Say NYSC Assault Probe Stalled As Victim Fails To Appear

The Anambra State Police Command says its investigation into the assault and public humiliation of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been stalled due to the victim’s absence.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the case involving corps member Jennifer Elobor, who was allegedly brutalised and stripped naked by over five armed operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, cannot progress without her cooperation.

Ikenga explained that while the police had commenced inquiries into the disturbing incident that sparked outrage on social media, the refusal of the victim to show up has slowed down efforts to ensure justice.

“The Command remains committed to uncovering the truth and bringing all culprits to book. However, the absence of the victim, whose testimony and formal complaint are vital, has posed a major challenge to the process,” the statement read.

He further urged the victim, her family, and other stakeholders to cooperate with the police to ensure a thorough investigation.

The incident, captured in a viral video, drew widespread condemnation from the public, with many calling for the disbandment of the vigilante group accused of taking the law into its own hands.
