Katsina State Introduces Digital Billing System to Enhance Tax Administration

The Katsina State Internal Revenue Service has launched a digital billing system, “Pay-by-Yourself” or “Biya da Kanka” in Hausa, to streamline tax payment and eliminate revenue leakages. This initiative aims to simplify tax administration, boost internally generated revenue, and reduce dependence on federal government allocations.

The Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Isyaku Muhammad, represented by Murtala Muhammad, Executive Director of Corporate Services, said the integrated revenue management central billing system was designed to eliminate leakages and strengthen revenue collection. He added that the service had opened a website, introduced Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), and produced pamphlets in English and Hausa languages to educate taxpayers.

The central billing system ensures that revenues are remitted directly into government coffers, promoting transparency and accountability. Taxpayers can now pay their taxes conveniently using the digital platform, reducing bureaucracy and enhancing efficiency.

The initiative is expected to boost internally generated revenue, enabling the state to fund development projects and improve public services. By eliminating revenue leakages and ensuring transparency, the initiative promotes accountability in tax administration.

The Katsina State Internal Revenue Service plans to conduct similar engagement exercises across the state to sensitize taxpayers on the benefits of the digital billing system.

The Chairman of Sandamu Local Government Council, Usman Nalado, has pledged to mobilize traditional and religious leaders to educate taxpayers in the area about the initiative.

The digital billing system is a major step towards promoting accountability in tax administration and improving the state’s financial autonomy. By increasing internally generated revenue, the state can reduce its dependence on federal government allocations and improve its ability to fund development projects.
