INEC Commences Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with online pre-registration opening today, August 18, 2025.

The move marks a major step in preparations for upcoming elections, including the November 8 Anambra governorship poll and the 2027 general elections.

According to INEC, the CVR exercise will run in two phases. The first is online pre-registration through the commission’s dedicated portal, where citizens can sign up as new voters, update their details, transfer their polling units, or check the status of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The second phase, involving in-person registration, will begin on August 25 at INEC offices across all states and local government areas.

The commission explained that the exercise is designed to expand voter access, reduce congestion at registration centres, and make the process more convenient for Nigerians, particularly young people and those who may be registering for the first time.

INEC urged all eligible citizens to take advantage of the platform, noting that the registration window is critical for ensuring broader participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

With elections approaching, the commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and the credibility of the electoral system.
