Ooni Launches Indigenous Social Media Platform “2geda”

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has unveiled Nigeria’s first indigenous social media network, 2geda, with a call for national support to grow the platform into a global force.
The launch took place on Saturday at Ilaji Resort and Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the monarch described the initiative as a symbol of Nigerian youth ingenuity and innovation.
“We must support our youths to make Nigeria great again. They are intelligent and innovative, and they need our support,” Ooni said. “I want to appeal to the Federal Government, our state governors, traditional rulers, as well as philanthropists to support this initiative so it can grow higher like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and others.”
Also present at the unveiling, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the cultural significance of the platform, saying it was more than a digital space but a tool for national identity.
“This platform is not just built on a post, it is built on culture. We are quickly awake to the fact that national development cannot thrive without digital sovereignty,” the Minister said.
“The Federal Government is ready to support a strong digital economy platform like 2geda with a collective mission to foster security, connection and a sense of belonging among Nigerians at home and abroad.”
He added that in an era where digital privacy, national identity, and cultural preservation are priorities, 2geda offers Nigerians a safe and relevant platform to connect, share, and build together.
With the unveiling, 2geda is positioned as a homegrown alternative to global platforms, promoting digital inclusion and cultural pride while strengthening Nigeria’s place in the global tech ecosystem.
