Tinubu Appoints Opeyemi Agbaje as Chairman of PENCOM

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of strategic policy analyst and economist, Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje, as the new Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
Mr. Agbaje confirmed the appointment in a statement to Peoples Gazette on Saturday, disclosing that he was officially notified earlier in the week.
“On Monday, August 11, I received a call from the Honourable Minister of Finance/Coordinating Minister of the Economy informing me of my appointment as Chairman of the National Pension Commission,” Agbaje said.
He further revealed that he has already met with the Director-General of PENCOM for his first official briefing on the commission’s activities and ongoing reforms.
Agbaje, the Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory Services Limited, is widely recognised for his work as a strategic thinker and commentator on economic policy in Nigeria. He is also the Executive Producer of the Policy Council television programme, a platform focused on governance, development, and public policy debates.
His public service record includes two terms on the board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), where he served between 2011 and August 2019.
The National Pension Commission plays a critical role in regulating, supervising, and ensuring the effective administration of pension matters in Nigeria, especially under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Observers say Agbaje’s appointment reflects President Tinubu’s drive to inject technocratic expertise into key national institutions. With his background in economic policy and private-sector advisory services, Agbaje is expected to bring a fresh perspective to PENCOM’s regulatory framework and deepen reforms in the nation’s pension industry.
