Rep Accuses Colleagues of Charging Millions to Present Bills

Ibrahim Auyo, a member of the House of Representatives, has alleged that some lawmakers demand between ₦1 million and ₦3 million before presenting bills, motions, or petitions in the Green Chamber.
Speaking in Hausa during a meeting with constituents of Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency, Jigawa State, the All Progressives Congress lawmaker said the practice has discouraged many from submitting proposals.
He explained that after paying to present a bill, sponsors must lobby all 360 members for approval. Auyo noted he has not received any bill requests from his constituency since taking office in 2015 but remains open to receiving properly channeled proposals through community leaders.
Defending his record on youth empowerment, he claimed that 80% of beneficiaries of his support were young people, though some sold items given to them at reduced prices.
Auyo urged unity until the end of his tenure in 2027 and cautioned against insulting leaders for political reasons.
