Liverpool Edge Bournemouth in Six-Goal Thriller on Premier League Opening Night

Liverpool began their Premier League title defence with a dramatic 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday, courtesy of late strikes from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.

The defending champions appeared in control after goals from Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo put them 2-0 up, but Antoine Semenyo pulled the visitors level with a brace.

His performance came on the back of a reported incident of racial abuse from a supporter.

With the match finely poised in the closing stages, Chiesa, making an unexpected impact amid Liverpool’s injury troubles, restored the lead before Salah sealed the win.

It was an emotional evening for the home crowd, who paid tribute to Diogo Jota before kick-off, and Liverpool’s spirited finish ensured they started the season on a high.
