Koundé Commits Future to Barcelona With New Five-Year Deal

FC Barcelona have secured the long-term services of one of their most reliable defenders, Jules Koundé, after the French international signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030.
The extension, confirmed on Friday, adds three years to his previous deal, which was set to expire in 2027.
The 26-year-old joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2022 and quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the team’s defensive setup. Initially deployed primarily as a centre-back, Koundé has flourished in recent seasons as a right-back, earning praise for his consistency, tactical intelligence, and versatility under both Xavi Hernández and current head coach Hansi Flick.
Since his arrival, Koundé has made more than 140 appearances for the Blaugrana, contributing not only in defence but also with crucial goals—including the winner in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
His efforts have helped Barcelona lift multiple trophies, including LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Supercopa.
The renewal comes after months of speculation linking Koundé with Premier League giants such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City. Barcelona’s ability to retain him is seen as both a sporting and strategic victory.
Beyond his on-pitch value, the new contract also plays a role in the club’s squad management, enabling the registration of players like Joan García, Marcus Rashford, Roony Bardghji, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Gerard Martín in time for the upcoming LaLiga season opener against Mallorca.
Fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with supporters hailing Koundé as one of the best right-backs in the world—often placing him just behind Achraf Hakimi in current rankings.
With this new deal, Barcelona have reinforced not only their backline but also their commitment to building a stable, competitive core for the years ahead.
