Katsina Seeks Federal Nod to Run Lambar Rimi Wind Farm

The Katsina State Government has moved closer to taking control of the dormant 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm, presenting a strategic business case to the Federal Government for its handover.

Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, led the state delegation to Abuja on Friday, where he met with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power, Mahmuda Mamman, and the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Jobson Ewalefoh.

Ahmed said the state plans to revive the wind farm through a Special Purpose Vehicle that would work directly with the Original Equipment Manufacturer and secure a Power Purchase Agreement with Kano Electricity Distribution Company.

ICRC’s Ewalefoh commended Katsina’s readiness, saying the project could progress quickly once the special purpose vehicle is set up.

He described the plan as a strong commitment to completing the facility and turning it into a revenue generator for the state.

Mamman praised Governor Dikko Radda’s political will, calling the proposal “a milestone for renewable energy development at the subnational level.”

The state will now submit a formal request and detailed business model to ICRC for a Certificate of Compliance.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to supply clean power, create jobs, and boost Katsina’s economy while advancing Nigeria’s green energy agenda.
