EFCC Arrests Suspected Serial Land Fraudster in Kaduna

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Alhassan Garba over alleged involvement in multiple land fraud cases in Kaduna State.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement on Friday that Garba, who presents himself as an estate agent, is linked to several incidents of land racketeering that have left victims with forged documents and no ownership rights.

In one case, the suspect allegedly sold land for ₦14.5 million using fake documents. Investigators found that the victim’s payment was split, with ₦900,000 going to Garba and ₦8.8 million transferred to a company account.

Another case involved the sale of land in Tsaunin Kura G.R.A, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, in October 2020 for ₦8 million. The buyer later discovered the property belonged to someone else, despite receiving an Offer of Grant and a signed Deed of Assignment.

The EFCC said Garba and five accomplices were also accused of selling land worth ₦32 million in March 2018 with counterfeit title documents. In 2022, he and others allegedly sold another property in Igabi LGA for ₦2 million, which was later revealed to be fraudulent.

Oyewale added that Garba had previously jumped administrative bail before being rearrested on August 12 in Kabala Costain, Maiduguri Road, Kaduna. He is expected to face charges once investigations are completed.
