APC Calls for Cancellation of Kano State By-Elections Amidst Widespread Violence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the cancellation of the ongoing bye-election in Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the rerun election in Ghari constituency, Kano State, due to widespread violence and disruptions.
According to Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, the elections have been marred by extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs across several polling units, compromising the credibility of the polls.
Verifiable reports indicate voters fled polling areas due to attacks, overwhelming deployed security personnel and making a credible election impossible.
The APC argues that proceeding with the elections would undermine the integrity of the democratic process and set a dangerous precedent for electoral malpractice.
The party urges INEC to immediately cancel the bye-election and rerun to protect the sanctity of the ballot and safeguard democracy.
Allowing the exercise to continue would amount to endorsing electoral violence and voter intimidation, which would be against democratic dictates of free, fair, and peaceful elections.
This development highlights concerns over the safety and credibility of the electoral process in Kano State, posing challenges for INEC to ensure a peaceful and credible process amidst reported violence and disruptions.
